Of Debit Cards and Wuthering Heights

I got a debit card recently. The first thing I bought with it was some cookies for my English class. Oh, the power of a little piece of plastic!

There's a really quite adorable shirt at work that I want to buy SO BADLY! But, I must not, for I must save my monies for tour.

I finished Wuthering Heights today. It left me feeling anxious...about what, you may ask? I've no idea...the ending was actually satisfying, and suffice it to say there is one relationship in Wuthering Heights that I approve of.

Regardlessssssssssssss...I don't know why I held down the s for so long...I just felt like it.

Anyway, I hope you all have the most splendid weekend!

Also, I WANT SOME SNOW!

Goodnight and good luck.

Sincerely,
Kaitlin R.

It's been awhile...

Dear kiddies...

I feel the writers block breaking its long silence.

I feel like I can't remember what I need to say but that there's always something to say. It's rather annoying.

I've decided I'm going to let my thoughts slip out through my finger tips and onto this keyboard which will transfer my words onto the screen and then, maybe then, something good will happen. Some sort of thought, some emotion will be put into the words which, for me, have been "just words" for so long.

Perhaps I should say something about dear Harry Potter. I know everyone's been talking about the books/movies since the last one came out. But I feel that after everything the books have done for me, I should at least declare my undying love for them.

Harry Potter saved me.

Those books brought me from a sad place in my silly elementary school brain to a new world with new friends and new places and new ideas.

Harry Potter was my escape. It still is sometimes. And I don't mean that I was trying to run away from anything. But sometimes things happened, as they always do, and I needed to forget for a little while. And what better place to go than into the adventure that is unlike any other, before or since.

Hope, despair, laughter, love, magic, good, evil, joy, anger, adventure, sadness, and so much more.

May I just say that when I read the last line of the seventh book ("All was well.") I balled like the baby I am for a good long while. I'd cried so much throughout the whole thing already and then, just when I thought I was going to be okay, it hit me. But it is so well worth the tears.

So much of my life has been wrapped up in this. I remember the exact place I was when I read the first book all the way through for the first time. I read it in one day, sitting on my couch, a little girl who's eyes had been opened to magic.

And, though some of it was changed up a bit, I really enjoyed the seventh movie.

Well, that's just some of my thoughts about my dear love for Harry Potter. Thank you J.K. Rowling.

Sincerely,
Kaitlin R.

La de da...

In less than twelve hours I leave on an adventure with some of my bestest friends. The Drum Majors, a soon-to-be Drum Major, and I are going to a Drum Major leadership camp in California!

It will be epic, and I am very excited! :)

Anyways, on another note, I started this new book recently called The Help. It's a book about two African American maids in the early sixties in Jackson, Mississippi and how they come to meet a white woman who wants to tell their stories. What it's like to work for whites in such times. It's excellent and I highly recommend it!

One of many things I love about reading a new book is the feeling of anticipation. How I don't know whats going to happen but I feel it's something good. The mystery is astounding. I love how books take me in and take me away. How all I have to do is sit on my bed eating Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and I'm down in Jackson Mississippi rooting for people who didn't exist, but for an idea that did. An idea of freedom, of fairness.

How glorious it truly is! How freeing to read words on a page that turn out to be so much more than just words. How wonderful it is for a teenaged girl in Utah to travel the world and have adventures from her living room.

I thank my Heavenly Father for inspiring words! Not just for the fantastic books of Fiction and fantasy. Not just for the histories and biographies. But for the best words. His words. The greatest words I'll ever know. :)

Sincerely,
Kaitlin R.

What to do, what to do, what to do today?

In my mind it is Friday.

Not Fryday.

Friday.

And on Fridays I have this alarming habit of staying up past mid-night and into the early hours of the morning.

What am I doing you may ask?

Reading.

And reading.

And reading some more.

Or watching the six hour version of Pride and Prejudice, or writing ridiculously long journal entries...but it's mostly reading.

What glorious things words are.

And Harry Potter, that's pretty glorious too. And Lord of the Rings...and...well, and a lot of other things.

The Picture of Dorian Gray though? Not so glorious...I recommend it nonetheless, although I'm not quite sure why.

Maire told me of a movie version she saw once where it's all black and white except for the picture and for some odd reason, somewhat unknown to me, it frazzled my nerves. I had a sort of strange dream/borderline nightmare about it.

It wasn't pleasant...

Keep your friends close, your enemies closer, and your best friends closest.

Sincerely,
Kaitlin R.
